Duct tape! My 1992 Grand Marquis had a rough idle. Much like that of a lopey, radical cam. It would stall if sitting too long at red lights. Ran the OBD scanner, gave me an EGR fault. Sure enough, I heard a hissing noise in one of the vacuum lines, plugged it with a pen and it seemed to idle fine. So I went one step further and sealed it off with some duct tape. It’s been fine for three days now, and the transmission no longer clunks when letting off at low throttle. I might fix it properly eventually, but so far, so good.

Meh, it’s EGR and a 23 year old Panther. Duct tape is probably the service manual fix at this point.

It’s probably what I’ll end up using to fix the hole in my floor too.

It’s amazing how differently a vehicle acts with a properly functioning vacuum system. I have a ‘97 F-250HD with a 351W that pulls 17mpg, after replacing a few missing/broken vacuum lines.

I would have been content if it only fixed the rough idle. Smoothing out the transmission when letting off the gas was an unexpected added bonus.

I had an early-model-year 1992 Crown Victoria with the bastard block (different bell housing bolt pattern) 4.6 mated to the old AOD (non-electronic) transmission, if yours is an early year production, it probably has the same. Loved that car, miss it to this day. Take care of yours.

Putting a oil collection tank on the pcv will help as well, the way it is stock it fouls the back two cylinders and plugs pretty quickly. You can add a T to the brake booster line so it spreads the oil mist evenly across the cylinders but an oil collection can is the best way to go. In the long run it’ll save that engine but they are usually down on power because of it.
